I think that first we should come up with the different types of Buinómon, that way we don't have people designing Buinómon that's types don't exist.

Fire, Water, Ice are essential, but comparing back to Charleshetrel's post we can have a Dinosaur type, and many others. Or we could just use synonyms and re-word Pokemon types, Grass could be Plant, Rock could be Earth, ect... And like Adekto said they need to cancel each other out. I looked up the different Pokemon types http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Type, but I don't think we want all of them, we should keep it simple just like Pokemon Blue and only have Grass, Rock, Water, Fire, Flying,ect...

I'll start making Buinómon with specific types. Just made a flying type but not quite sure what it is. :)

How about branching evolution paths? And we could stick to simple elements at first, like the chinese 5 - earth, fire, wood, water, metal/space. The picture I've attached (from the web), shows how they interact. This can also set up nice synergies, ie, using water and wood pkmn on your team would give each other passive boosts, but a fire in the same team would detract from the boost. An added advantage is that you're forced to make a team around elemets that work well together, instead of using one of each type (like you'd normally do in pokemon).

I made this alien thing. It's a bit weird. It might be a lizard.

Shouldn't game design come before sprites? Define game balance, how many monster of each kind etc. So we know what we have to draw instead of making random stuff which might not be useful? We don't even know if monster are going to evolve!

I agree with the 5 Chinese elements. For each element we could have the same number of monsters. we could have 3-4 common monsters, 2 rare monsters and 1 really rare (and really powerful) monster.

I wonder if we can really do game design like that on the forum, with people throwing random ideas. Maybe someone should suggest a defined and complete game design, then we discuss it, and then we start a challenge to draw sprites.

This post may sound a bit negative, but I just need this challenge needs to be a little more structured. Of course you can continue to draw nice monster as you already did ;)
