When you have 40€ for a stupid slow UART to wlan converter then you can do it.
Bluetooth costs around 5€.

what about range? as far as i recall it wont go as far then just basic rf
also if u want cheap, cant beat IR it just need a dongle on the pc side (which is an arduino and IR transceiver)

I test my Bluetooth module and it goes through 3 rooms. When you play together you sit, I think in one room.
When you like to play online the a wifi modul is OK, but with this small community, I think there is no one online.

Why not just sync with your friends gamebuino over bluetooth?

wel u can sync with about any connection like wire, IR and RF being the easy ones.
bluetooth and wifi have allot of protocol stuff mostly for security (which we really don't need)

Bluetooth you can use it like a wired uart connection, you have only to send a print(hello)
