Share your graphics sets !

Postby RayTro » Sat Oct 11, 2014 12:39 pm

(I have no idea where i can put this topic ><)
Hi everybody, you have made some graphics tiles/characters/titlescreen but you don't know what you want to do with it ? You have made beautiful graphics and you want to share it ? Here, you can share your graphics sets for everybody who want to make a game without any idea for game's graphics.
I'll put in this first post all graphics shared, because with that you don't have to research each post for found your favorite graphic.
(For administrators : can you make (or activate) the "spoiler" BBCode ?)

Yes! This is a fantastic idea! The demos give people a good starting point with code, a centralized repository of Gamebuino-res appropriate graphics would compliment that perfectly!

Demake of Mana

Postby Marcus » Fri Jan 09, 2015 7:41 pm

Hello World,

as it is just a bunch of pixel-scribbles, I thought I would post this here :-)

My all-time favorite is the SNES game "The Secret of Mana". For it's time it had magnificent graphics, revolutionary 3-player game-play and the ring menu system.

After rescaling a Screenshot of the game to 84x48 it quickly became clear this was insane, especially without gray-scale... On the other hand "AntAttack 3D" showed that even with black-and-white graphic and low resolution a lot is possible. Also there is a Zelda-Demake in Atari style, with 1 Pixel sprite :-)

Still, 11x6 or so would allow little detail. But that's part of the challenge, isn't it?

I only recently saw in the Wiki that gray is possible, even though I have read on another forum that it does not work well previously. So I just started playing around with the idea of making use of it, as it'll make the backgrounds more subtle and allows more details for the sprites.

TL;DR:

The Demake of Mana

Click on the image to view fully and avoid ugly rescaling.

The color Nokia screen would be nice as well.

At this size a single pixel can make the difference :-)
Has anyone attempted to make a jRPG such as a Zelda-Fangame with similar sprite size? i saw there is a Pokemon-Game in the works, though the sprites would be to big for my idea.

I do not have a Gamebuino yet, as I just ordered an "ICWatch" and have to tinker with that one first before buying anything else ;-) As I am a fan of the Nintendo/Nelsonic game watches (NOT the "Game&Watch") and might make my own variant just for this game.

I know, pretty ugly :-) I have no 3D Model yet, but I will print the case. I am not sure if I will use a own PCB or try to fit an Arduino Mini into it.

Marcus, your image don't appear, please edit your post and use "upload an attachment" and then "insert inline", this way the links will never break ;)

Thank you, I will :-) It looks like picpaste does not allow hot-linking (The links do still work though).
When I wrote the post, the images showed up as I had been to their site just before that.

//Edit: Uploaded images via Forum. Fixed now. Thanks again for the heads up.

I so agree with that idea Myndale!
Maybe within the wiki or an extra tab on the gamebuino could be a nice place?
It could host gfx,sfx and music people create similar to the games itself. Sure it should be gamebuino compatible/ready.
Gfx could even be categorized into intro pic/tile/sprite/background kind of thing.

just some extra ideas, but I´m sure this would be neat to programmers and artists both way. :)

Indeed, even just a regular Wiki page could be useful and easier to browse :-)

I finished some enemy sprites, not really animated any yet, it is difficult to get them to 8x11; Though I am not even sure if that would be a practical size. Smaller will make most completely unrecognizable, larger would make the screen too crowded.

This is more tedious then 8x16 sprites, yikes. Open for suggestions. Tried to keep them black-white compatible, the gray tone is not mandatory.

And here the first 3D Design of my"SNES-Watch"-Sketch, though I already redesigned parts of it to make it smaller. The first version was for the 5110 Nokia LCD on breakout board, making it relatively bulky. I have found some smaller 128x96 LCD and a color 6100 Nokia LCD on Breakout board, so I might go that route or try to solder the connections to the 5110 LCD. Open for Display suggestions :-)

Would be neat to make it Gamebuino-Compatible though. On the other hand,

IS tempting :-)
