Thanks all! Yeah making one of these is definitely on the table. Given enough time maybe even all of them.

Incredibly rich, specially the background, which seems not many mocks do sport them.

Thanks for the praise erico!
Still toying with this... the tileset keeps getting bigger and bigger. I think its safe to assume I will go forward with this game now. Special request from my son anyway, he loves Sonic. =)

Those "doppler the porcupine" mockups are pretty great. It makes me wonder if they could be de-made for the original gamebuino screen.
I was thinking about how the Gamebuino has a Mario clone but no Sonic clone. Only one half of an epic rivalry! Jokes aside, I'm curious whether a fast-paced game like that would even work on the original Gamebuino display since it's relatively blurry for fast animations. Think it could be made to work?

The original Gamebuino is way too blurry for such high speed games unfortunately. If you absolutely want to make a Sonic game for the original Gamebuino, I'd do Sonic spinball. The gameplay is generally a lot slower, but its still a really fun game.
About a platformer engine, I'm already working on something (that can hopefully be ported easily to the new Gamebuino when it it released) with the help of a very skilled fellow Gamebuinian, but the more engines we have the better, so I'd say definitely go ahead with the project. I'm looking forward to see what you will be coming up with.
