Pixel aspect ratio

Postby erico » Fri Apr 11, 2014 6:57 pm

A question of mine:

I was analyzing Myndale´s test of an image on a real Gamebuino (beta) against what I have on my monitor.

I believe my monitor has a pixel aspect ration (and in software too) of 1x1, a square pixel.
From the Gamebuino picture, if optics are not deceiving me, I get 6/7x1, so a slightly taller pixel.

Am I wrong? Can someone confirm the pixel aspect ratio on the screen of the Gamebuino?
Of course whatever it is is no problem, it doesn´t affect game design, it is more out of curiosity.

A comparison image goes bellow.

The 5110 datasheet here...

http://skpang.co.uk/catalog/images/lcd/graphic/docs/User_Manual_ET_LCD5110.pdf

...states that the internal controller is a PCD8544. Its datasheet specifies an effective display area of 28.95x19.41mm:

http://serdisplib.sourceforge.net/ser/doc/goldentek.pdf

That matches my physical measurements exactly and results in an aspect ratio of 28.95*48/84/19.41 = 1/1.17, so your estimate was accurate to about 0.3% :)

Lots more info here: http://serdisplib.sourceforge.net/ser/pcd8544.html

That is a lot of hardware references, thanks for sharing the info.
Should be a good read.

The .3% may probably be from cropping and scaling the original photo, but I´m impressed myself on your results. I now know the true aspect ratio of it, thanks again!
