I think you just have to hold the C button during a second or two while turning it on and it should reflash the loader.
If it is one of the more recent ones he has to hold it down more like 10 seconds or so.

I find it confusing, though, how with the menus you *only* see the highlighted menu point and not the other things, too

Yes, that's how I designed it. However I cannot change it now or else the file will be to large. I had to take out some levels to make it less than
30 KB.

The limit is actually a bit higher, more like 31kb, not exactly sure where it is, it is 32KB minus the bootloader so it depends on the size of the bootloader.

Yes, I noticed, I just meant that I find the way the UI is lay-outed quite confusing

If i make it above 30 KB it would crash.

Oh, I see.
You might be able to free up some space by storing levels on the sd-card
