300mAh battery?

Sat Apr 30, 2016 10:36 am

On the wiki at the bill of matterials it says that the battery the Gamebuino uses is a 240mAh battery. But when i look at my Gamebuino it says on the back of the battery that its a 300mAh battery. WUT? :o

I just received my brand new gamebuino and it seems to have a 180mAh, am I missing something? :?

Turned out the one who supplied the 300mAh batteries lied about the capacity, so I reverted back to 180mAh batteries with a serious supplier. You'll still get at least 8 hours of play time so there's nothing to worry about :)

I think something like having to switch to a different battery would be of interest to the Gamebuino community. Even if the battery capacity is similar to what it was before, both the wiki and the image on the main page still say the battery is 300mAh (and that the battery will last 24 hours, not 8!), which is misleading to a potential buyer. Something of that magnitude maybe deserves its own blog post.

I personally think that transparency is helpful for creating a vibrant community and maintaining trust, and that perhaps we should have heard about this earlier.

I really don't want to cause any offense, but I genuinely feel that this is important and was compelled to say something.

I completely agree with you and understand your feelings. It's part of the REV4 changes I planned to list in the next blog post. I started shipping REV4 Gamebuino but didn't get time for the official announcement, I'll do it soon.
I told you "at least" 8h, it doesn't mean you can't reach "up to" 24h, it mainly depends on the Gamebuino usage (sound, backlight...).

Thanks for clarifying. I really appreciate your openness with the community.

As you said, transparency is one of the most important thing, and I agree with you. I might not post often enough, but I'm working on improving this point ;)
I added information about the battery in the last blog update. I'll update the specs on the website soon to avoid confusion.
